The 2019 ‘Walk for Wag’ at Kielder takes place on Saturday 28th of September 2019. This is our fourth event and we’re excited to be joined again by two and four legged representatives of the Northumbria Police Dog Section and we’ll be ‘serenaded’ by the fantastic Hexham Uketeers.
Walkers are always stunned by the spectacular scenery and have a great fun day out whilst at the same time, raising money to enable more and more Visiting Wag Teams to visit the elderly across the North East of England.
Every year we have many different walkers, individuals, families with children, friends, dog walking groups and colleagues from local companies.
You can see what a great time everyone has in the video below!
About the Walk
Indisputably one of the most beautiful walks in the UK, the Kielder Dog Walk is a 10 kilometre sponsored walk (6.2 miles) starting at the Kielder Waterside along the Lakeside Way.
There is also a 3 kilometre (1.86 miles) walk where a shorter distance would be more appropriate for you and your dog.
The 10 km walk takes just about 2 hours at a moderate pace and the 3 km about half an hour. Both walks are on generally good terrain although it can be uneven in parts. The 3km walk is wheelchair accessible with support.
Check in at the Kielder Waterside on the day is by 10.45 a.m.
Not every walker brings a dog, we often have large groups of walkers with just one dog between them. The lovely dogs that do come are in all shapes and sizes, they are well socialised, they definitely aren’t in season (!) and they are always held on normal walking leads.
There is no charge to take part. The parking charges, ‘Walking for Wag’ t-shirts, bandanas, water, chocolate and dog biscuits are all provided. We are relying on everyone who takes part to help us by raising at least £50 to support our work either through setting up a mydonate page, downloading a sponsorship form or making a donation.
Please come and support us, encourage your friends and family and maybe even get your companies involved. Every walker must register online by the 23rd of September 2019.
