Intergenerational Project in Guisborough

Published: 18th June 2019

The second project of it’s type for Wag & Company.  Intergenerational projects like this help young people to understand the difficulties faced by older people and the very simple things that can be done to make life a little brighter.

Wag Volunteer Andy and friend Lesley Telford from Park House Care Home in Guisborough visited St Paulinus RC Primary School with Friendship Dogs, Poppy and Daisy.

Andy and Lesley both spoke to pupils in afternoon assembly about the benefits to the elderly of visiting dogs and then separately to Year 5 pupils about Wag & Company, the difference our visits make and why we're needed.

Lesley showed the children photos of Wag & Company visits to Park House and talked about the joy that Friendship Dogs bring to residents.  The children had lots of questions to ask and they also loved stroking Daisy and Poppy and giving them treats.

On Friday, 21st June half of the Year 5 class will accompany Andy, Daisy and Poppy on a visit to Park House Care Home to meet Lesley again as well as some of the other residents, and then the second half of the class will visit on Friday, 5th July.

Thank you so much to everyone involved for making such a lovely project happen.
