Our visiting volunteers with their friendship dogs, “Visiting Wag Teams” are building special relationships with older dog lovers across the North East of England.
Every day we grow our community of North East dog owners who, in our own particular Wag & Company way, with a silky ear, a kind heart and only a couple of hours a week, are making a really big difference to other people's lives; those of our elderly neighbours.
Together we are making sure that everyone who misses friendship and the company of a dog can quickly benefit from a face to face visit, bringing friends with two and with four legs to those who need it most.
We are visiting in care or medical establishments as well as being the only visiting dog charity to visit in the homes of elderly dog lovers.
There are more than 51,000 pensioners in the North East who describe themselves as lonely all or most of the time. At 36%, the North East has the highest percentage of dog owning households in the UK. So a considerable number of lonely older dog lovers.
There are nearly 900 care and medical establishments in the North East, quite apart from the lonely people in their own homes that would really benefit from a regular visit from new friends. The need for Visiting Wag Teams has never been greater.
